York Central is set to become a brand-new city quarter for York. Bordered on one side by the railway station, it is one of the UK’s largest urban regeneration projects, a big space with even bigger ambitions.
To shape the identity of York Central, we started by listening, not just to the amazing team behind the project but those who will live it. We walked the city speaking with young and old, families and students, commuters and creatives. We asked them what they loved about York, what they felt was missing and what their hopes for the future were for this exciting and expansive new area of the city.

What we heard was that York Central is to be a place for everyone, a place for communities to lay down roots, businesses to flourish and innovation to thrive. With a sustainable heart and a creative soul it is where world-class ambition and local character meet. An extraordinary new place. Full of energy. Full of life. And, importantly, a place full of connections.
Our identity stemmed from the idea of vibrant connections: people and places, work and life, surprise and tranquillity, creativity and commerce, all coming together to create an exciting new area of the city. The linear forms that make up the marque also subtly hint at the train hub for which York is famed, a hub that has been creating connections for many, many years.
